#SWORCERY SPREADS TO JAPAN ON JUNE 21st

Tokyo, Japan, May 21st, 2012, 07:30:00 JST — Ladies & gentlemen: Konnichiwa. We have heard your cries & we apologize for the delay.

Our research team at Superbrothers, alongside videogame wizards at CAPY & maestro Jim Guthrie, and in collaboration with our trusted partners at Tokyo-based 8-4, Ltd., are proud to announce that our latest psychosocial audiovisual experiment, a meandering mythopoetic adventure known as SUPERBROTHERS: SWORD & SWORCERY EP, will be available this summer for the very first time in the native language of the noble people who live on the island nation of Japan. Now that the sun, Earth and moon have reached the proper alignment, a trailer for the new version can be found at the game’s official Japanese website: sworcery.jp

Originally conceived for the iPhone & the iPad, SUPERBROTHERS: SWORD & SWORCERY EP has also been recently formatted for use with the electric computer, so this upcoming, fully-localized edition will be available on the iTunes App Store for Apple’s touchtronic machinery and on PC & Mac via Steam when it launches on June 21st.

Note: If you have already purchased SUPERBROTHERS: SWORD & SWORCERY EP and you are curious about these Japan shenanigans: please remain calm, you will be taken care of.

SUPERBROTHERS: SWORD & SWORCERY EP has been described as “a prog rock concept record that you can hang out in,” and features an album’s worth of songs by noted composer Jim Guthrie. Jim Guthrie’s official soundtrack Sword & Sworcery LP: The Ballad of the Space Babies has also been a hit, and is already available on the iTunes Store in Japan.

You are now among the initiated. We will meet again at the appointed time, when the stars align for the summer solstice on June 21st.

#SWORCERY JAPANESE REMIX ALBUM ALSO COMING JUNE 21st

To mark the June 21st launch of SUPERBROTHERS: SWORD & SWORCERY EP in the island nation of Japan, an entirely new album has been created featuring seven of Jim Guthrie’s songs of sworcery, re-interpreted by a who’s who of Japanese composers, many of them known for their affiliation with videogames.

The Scythian Steppes: seven #sworcery songs localized for Japan” will contain tracks from Michiru Yamane (Castlevania: Symphony of the Night), Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill), Baiyon (PixelJunk 4am), Mitsuto Suzuki (Final Fantasy XIII-2), chiptune artist macotom3, and superhero Decasségui Hip.

This new record was orchestrated by the folks at 8-4, Ltd. with the intention of bringing the best of the West to the East, and bringing the best of the East to the West. The record was produced in association with Jim Guthrie & Superbrothers. “We wanted to do something special to celebrate #sworcery finally coming to Japan,” says 8-4, Ltd. president Hiroko Minamoto. “Music and collaboration were key aspects of this game from the beginning, so a remix album together with Japanese artists just felt right.”

The album will sell for $5. More information and samples of all the new tracks can be found at sworcery.jp/remix/.

ABOUT THE GAME

Since its English-language release in 2011, SUPERBROTHERS: SWORD & SWORCERY EP has been a hit both critically & commercially.

In the eyes of many, S:S&S:EP legitimized the iPhone & iPad as platforms for worthwhile, long-form, experimental videogames. S:S&S:EP was named one of Time Magazine’s Top 10 Videogames of 2011 in a list that included Dark Souls, Zelda: Skyward Sword, Skyrim & Uncharted 3. S:S&S:EP was also the recipient of the Game Developer’s Choice Awards for Best Mobile/Handheld Videogame 2011, an award for which Super Mario 3D Land was also a finalist.

“It’s simply a magnificent game” says Suda 51, CEO of Grasshopper Manufacture, the studio behind such acclaimed games as No More Heroes, Killer 7, and Shadows of the Damned.

“There’s a long history of cool, quirky & meaningful Japanese games making it over to the West” says 8-4, Ltd. Executive Director Mark MacDonald. “We figured it was time to return the favor, and #sworcery is the perfect package to do it in style.”

S:S&S:EP is essentially a crude videogame haiku about life, love & death. We suggest approaching it without specific expectations, at a time & in a place where you can relax, put on your headphones & be immersed. S:S&S:EP is a product of the heart & soul of a tiny, dedicated team, with an emphasis on audiovisual style & synesthesia.
