2017 NEW YEAR’S CARDS FROM AROUND THE JAPANESE GAMING INDUSTRY

Happy New Year! 2016 is finally over (thank goodness), which means it’s time for another installment of our yearly tribute to the best “nengajōs” (New Year’s cards) from around the Japanese gaming industry! We’ve told you of the time-honored tradition of nengajōs before, but if you’re new, or weren’t paying attention, head on over here for a quick run-down on what it all means, man.

(And if you missed our previous installments, feel free to check them out here: 20112012201320142015, 2016)
This year – the year of the rooster — we teamed up with the amazingly talented Temmie Chang, known for her work on a little indie PC game called Undertale, to put together our card. Undertale is a game that’s very near and dear to our hearts, and it just so happens to be making its way to Japan later this year, so we thought we’d give our friends in the JP industry a taste of some original artwork, courtesy of Temmie.

She was also rad enough to draw us all in her (amazing) pixel style for the back of the card – can you tell who is who?!

As always, we’ve put together a collection of some of the other cool cards from around the Japanese industry for you to peruse, so have a look below (click through for larger versions!), and let us and/or the creators what you think! And once again: HAPPY NEW YEAR!
