I apologise for the re-post, but I wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t necessary. I’m really out of options on who to contact, and definitly in need of an answer on the matter. So please do not see this as some sort of weird internet stalking method. I really don’t know what to do. Please respond as soon as possible! Thank you so much.
-RE-POST:
Hello guys! Loved the podcast as always. I do, however, still have a question that remains unanswered.
A few podcasts ago, you replied to a few questions regarding Degrees and other information. However, I need to be sure of what was meant to be said in that response.
Is a college degree not really necessary in order to work there? Or do we still need to acquire one?
And if so, does this scenario only apply to 8-4? Or is it the same situation for other localizaion companies in Japan?
I had thought of majoring in something (it appears we do not have an option to major in Japanese, but rather minor in it.) related to this part of the industry. I thought of what you said about being a really good writer and such. Considering something related to that area. I’m still not sure.
I just want to make sure i’m not missing anything important.
The reason why I keep bringing this up, is because I’m still trying to grasp a few key aspects regarding this part of the industry. And I feel that the best way to do so, is to contact companies.
I’d be extremely thankful if someday I could get these little questions answered!
Great podcast, guys (and gal) – but one thing was missing from the show notes: a link to that *awesome* review that closed out the show! :)
Just a quick heads up: ‘gar’ doesn’t actually come from GaoGaiGar (which is certainly gar!), but from a 4ch post, making a typo for ‘gay’, talking about Archer from Fate/Stay Night. Because Archer is pretty gar, the term took on the meaning that it has today.
The more you know!
OK I kinda need to know where that awkward clip of the guy playing SWTOR is from..
Obviously goes without saying, but great job guys!
Argh, JJ is so horrible on the podcast.
Re: Mark’s profanity
There’s a big difference between swearing because you don’t have anything else to say, and swearing to emphasize something you feel strongly about. I think those probably describe Jaffe and Mark, respectively.
I say keep on cursing! The Internet isn’t your mom, and it can’t wash your mouth out with a bar of soap.
Surprised to see that someone thinks JJ is terrible on the podcast, but to each their own. He does a good job for sticking up his own opinion – even if it’s not something that everybody else agrees with and/or commonly understands.
For what it’s worth, I think he was spot on regarding the included “stand” for Kid Icarus. Yes, it’s superflous and it does undermine the meaning of the 3DS as a portable system, but it’s also not exclusive – i.e. you don’t have it to play Kid Icarus. Rather, it’s offered out of goodwill to enhance the experience, as it may be.
A fun episode as always. My favorite part was listening to Mark’s promise to swear less just fall apart by the end of the show. Mark, you use “fucking” like some people use commas. I don’t think you do it to sound as “cool” as David Jaffe, it’s just a habit. While I’ve certainly noticed it, and noted it as a tad excessive, I’ve never been offended. If you want to break that habit, you’ll have to work at it a bit harder than you did here. If you don’t, then just rock on. It’s your fuckin’ show, right?
Where the hell did that closing SWTOR “review” come from? That was amazingly awkward, and strangely fascinating.
Found it.

I’d say Asperger’s is a likely element here.
Brilliant! Thanks Colin :)
Regarding virtual touch controls — I hated them, then I completed Shining Force on iPhone, and I still hated them, but then I played Sonic CD on iPhone (awesome port by the way) and it’s changed my perception a little bit. It’s not as good as playing with a controller and never will be, but it is surprisingly playable; I completed the first couple of acts no problem.
As for Yu Suzuki (legend), at the end of a recent interview, when asked if we could see HD versions of the Shenmue games, he nods furiously and says with a cheeky smile, “It’s a possibility.” I shall cling onto that.

Good podcast as always. Keep it up.
Hey! I’ve been listening to 8-4 Play for a while now, you all seem like an awesome crew and your show has become a really enjoyable timesink for me. I never bothered with feedback before but since you’re always asking for it…
News is FUCKING BORING. I really don’t know why so many podcasts find it crucial to include news segments. It renders large segments of the show more or less irrelevant if you are listening to them more than a few weeks post airing. There’s a plethora of other sources for people to get that info and given the unique position you guys are in compared to a lot of people doing game coverage I just feel like it’s time that could be better spent…
I’d rather hear you talk about games you are really genuinely interested in or think you could provide some valuable insight into even if they aren’t completely current.
Also don’t be afraid to go off on tangents! Crazy anecdotes about Japan or whatever stupid shit might be on your mind can be really entertaining! I’d much rather listen to something that sounds like a natural conversation than something forced and structured.
Though maybe I’m in the minority regarding that…
Well Thank you! for all the fun listening you provide. keep it up!
Oh and there are really still people in the world who get hung up on “curse words”? What the fuck?
