8-4 is a video game localization, publishing, and development company based in Tokyo. Founded in 2005, 8-4 prides itself on delivering high-quality localizations of everything from big-budget AAA franchise titles to one-person indie gems, while working tirelessly behind the scenes to further bridge the gap between the Japanese and Western game industries.
Name: 8-4, Ltd.
Established: Oct. 5, 2005
8-4 was founded in 2005 by Hiroko Minamoto and John Ricciardi, two industry veterans who decided to put their strengths together to create a localization studio that focused on quality first, with an emphasis on growing the (at the time) relatively small field of Japanese-to-English game localization. In 2008, they were joined by Mark MacDonald (now SVP of Business Development and Production at Enhance Games), and together, they expanded 8-4’s reach to include various forms of consulting, event planning, English-to-Japanese localization, and eventually publishing and development.
